The beginnig...
Retrò was born the 10th April 2003, or, to be more exacted, was opened that day.
In reality since several years before I projected to open a premise, and after a long and exhausting search and several refusals finally I found in November on the "Inserto" of "L'Eco di Bergamo" an advertisement of a sale in the nearness of Dalmine.
I already knew the Old Rasica Inn and I had pleasure to know that was on sale; I was many times in front of that particular building, corner-house between two streets in the country.
I was never been in that premise, but it gave me the sensation to be a meeting-place, in the past, for inhabitants and passer-by.
I desired it since the beginning, but the bureaucratic way was very complicated. For those times, like today, banks were very scrupulous in choosing people to whom lend money, and I such wasn't in a privileged condition, because I was 23 and I had no experiences in this field.
But I wanted to self made, without any help, and I got in! (I've been succesful!).
The premise became mine only after three months, the 11th of February.
I had to disassemble, empty and rebuilt it.
Either two months before running into debts.
Very few believed that in I would have got in 2 months...
The name? Retrò of course.
A name... a reason...
During the days I was between debris and sacks of cement, and the evening, being excited by the idea of having a premise really mine, I tried to find the name which could represent exactly the history, but also the novelties of this new restaurant.
These are some examples of the name that could be suitable:
- at the three coins
- the good tankard
- old oak
- good soop
- cheers
In reality they were more; I walked through every rooms of my house with five or six vocaboulary, by the inspiration of the moment:
Latin, because the origins are origins
Greek mythology, who has never heard of Zeus?
Dictionary of history, one can never know, perhaps...
Dictionary of italian, in that period I learned a lot, trust me!!!
Dictionary of Italian – Bergamasco, how can I miss it?
Dictionary of french and english, I may as well go the whole hog!
However, after some weeks, I couldn't stand and neither the other people, because they became mad with my requestes of advice and sounding.
One night, at my computer, I was watching trough the search engine trying to find an idea for the name while I saw an image of a luggage van with a name “Retro” (back)... ... ...mmm! Retro!?!... Ehi RETRÒ!!! (my dear dictionary of french). “EUREKA!”
I shouted in my house, I've found it, it was the right name and I was sure, “RETRÒ”.
The exactiest translation would be “ the past that lives today but aduste belong the moment request”.
It was five o'clock of the 20th january 2003 morning: after a little time I had a second inspiration: THE SLOGAN!
Retrò, when flavours and values the same as the old times.
It's a good sentence to make people understand that my idea was giving to my clients service, courtesy, kindness, good products, quality and quantity.
After a few years I understood that are important even the ability and the will to improve ourselves.
Values that, with my dependents and collaborators, I wanted to substain and to search for day by day, and so the new slogan: Retrò... Tradition with time!
